Hugh Bradlow is globally recognised as a thought leader in telecommunications and was elected as the joint 2009 Australian Telecommunications Ambassador of the Year, named by Global Telecom Business as one of the most 100 most influential telecommunications executives in the world and Smart Company designated him as one of the 12 most influential people in Australian ICT.
Bradlow recently retired from his 22-year career at Telstra after working as Chief Technology Officer, Head of Innovation, Chief Scientist and Director of Telstra Research Labs, where he was responsible for evaluating the emerging technologies that impact Telstra’s future business and as a result, gained a business and media reputation as a “futurist”.
Hugh Bradlow is now President of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, Australia’s peak body for technologists and engineers which acts as a ‘think tank’ to advocate for the development and adoption of technology in Australia. The Board is pleased to announce that Mr Ryan Winn will be joining ACOLA as our new Chief Executive Officer
Starting 2 September 2019
Ryan has held various executive roles across the Australian Government over the last decade, including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He will be joining us from the Australian Government Department of Education where he has been leading the development of policy and identification of investments in national research infrastructure. His recent successes include development of the 2018 Research Infrastructure Investment Plan and supporting Dr Alan Finkel, Australia’s Chief Scientist, and an expert group in developing the 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap.
Throughout this recent role he has worked closely with all levels of government, academic and industry stakeholders to prioritise and scope the research infrastructure critical to enabling world-class research in Australia. The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) is an independent learned academy that helps Australians understand and use technology to solve complex problems.
History
The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences was founded by Ian McLennan in 1975 in Melbourne.[citation needed]
In 1987 the name was lengthened to include engineering, as the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. In 2015, the Academy adopted a new business name, the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, reserving the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering as its company name.[citation needed]
Organisation
ATSE operates as an independent, non-government, not-for-profit, chartered organisation.[citation needed]
