Georgios Samaras (Greek: Γεώργιος Σαμαράς, pronounced[ˈʝorɣossamaˈras]; born 21 February 1985) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a forward.

Samaras started his career at OFI, before moving on to Eredivisie side Heerenveen in 2001. He made his first team debut two years later and after a further three seasons with the club he moved to Premier League club Manchester City for a fee of £6 million in 2006. After Sven-Göran Eriksson took over as manager Samaras fell out of favour with the first team. In January 2008 he was loaned out to Scottish Premier League team Celtic, moving on a permanent basis in the summer.

Samaras helped Celtic win Scottish league championships in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014, totalling 74 goals in 249 competitive games. He left the club at the end of his contract in 2014 and returned to the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, where he featured rarely and had an unsuccessful loan to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Prodigiously productive and versatile, contemporary Greek-American artist Lucas Samaras has investigated the quandaries of the numinous and carnal self in media ranging from engraving to Polaroid and assemblage to Happening.

Lucas Samaras (Λουκάς Σαμαράς) was born on September 14, 1936 in Kastoria, Western Macedonia Greece, and immigrated to the United States in his youth. He earned an art degree from Rutgers and later studied at Columbia. As a tyro in the heady New York art world of the late 1950s, he participated in Allan Kaprow’s legendary Happenings that rakishly scumbled the line between the visual and performing arts. Samaras also practiced drawing, painting, and sculpture before being gifted an XC-70 camera by the Polaroid Company; his most famous series is Photo-Transformation (1973–1976), in which the artist scratched and smeared the still-wet emulsion of Polaroid self-portraits to a surreal and often gruesome effect. Samaras has produced a body of work that is remarkable for its scope and inventiveness. He has achieved success in many media but is undoubtedly best known for his multi-media "box" assemblages and his Polaroid "photo-transformations". The broad range of his work is nevertheless dominated by a single theme: that of autobiography. He repeatedly addresses the relationship between the body, mind, and soul and the environments and milieus which help shape them. Yet while his art is highly personal, Samaras uses autobiography, not as a romantic device, but rather as a more critical means of self-interrogation. Samaras is also very well known for the solitary world in which he chooses to live; his tiny self-contained one-bed apartment doubling as both living space and artist's studio.
