Mark Jennings

Dunedin-born Mark Jennings was educated at Otago Boys' High School. After realising he wasn't going to be an accountant, Jennings abandoned Otago commerce studies for a journalism course at Wellington Polytechnic. In 1977 he joined TV One as a trainee journalist in Christchurch, before moving to the Wellington newsroom. Jennings was mentored by TV One news head Doug Eckhoff and Christchurch bureau chief John Knowles, who "took me under his wing and taught me television."

In 1979 Jennings crossed the ditch and spent a decade working in Australian current affairs, on TV news mainstays like ABC NewsNationwide, 7.30 Report, and 7 News

Jennings returned home from Melbourne in 1989, to set up the Christchurch news bureau of upstart new channel TV3. He had spurned an offer to work on TVNZ's Holmes show so he could run the rival network's South Island news operation, and file stories for 3 News,Nightlineand 60 Minutes. He can be seen reporting for 3 News first broadcast on 27 November 1989 about torture in Timaru.

Journalist Mark Jennings joined new channel TV3 in 1989, to set up its South Island news operation. After becoming TV3's news chief in 1995, he won wide respect as a calm hand, competing against TVNZ's bigger budgets and arguing that news presenters ought to have journalism experience. By the time his resignation was announced in 2016, Jennings had become one of the longest serving heads of news in NZ TV history.

Mark Jennings


Mark Jennings is a minor character on The CW's Dynasty. He is portrayed by Damon Dayoub.

Mark was the first husband of Cristal Flores, driven apart by Cristal's powerful and vengeful family. A short-lived reunion between the two results in Mark's gruesome murder as he is shot by Alexis Carrington, who was aiming for Cristal.

Early Life[]

At one time married to Cristal Flores, a falling out between Mark and his in-laws resulted in the forced dissolution of his marriage. In order to get the point across that Mark and Cristal were no longer allowed to be together, the Flores family arranged for Mark to be involved in an accident as well as framed him for professional soccer match fixing that resulted in him being banned from the soccer profession.
