Biography

Egyptian actor, director and author, began his education in the city of Fayoum traveled to Italy after the First World War, where he studied acting and studied at the hands of the Italian actor Cantoni, to return to Egypt and worked in Hassan Fayek’s Theater, and then founded his own theater and Ramses Film Production Company, and participated in the establishment of Nahas studios and took over the management of the Studio, In the cinema, he wrote and directed his film scenarios. He received many awards in Egypt and many honors such as the Grand Order of the Cisé from the King of Morocco. He received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Arts. He married and did not have children.

     Youssef  Wahbi يـوسـفوهــبــي was born on July 14th 1898 in the city of Al-Fayoum الــفــَـــيــُّـــوم  , Egypt. He was an Egyptian theatre and cinema actor مـُـمـَــثـــِّـــل and director مـُــخــرِج , a leading star نــَــجــْــم of the 1930s and 1940s and one of the most prominent Arab stage actors of all times.

    Wahbi was born into a high class family. His father – Abdallah Pasha Wahbi – was an inspector مــُــفــَــتــِّــش in the Ministry of Irrigation وزارةالــرَّيّ in Fayoum and was a great land owner. Wahbi started his education by going to the city’s most famous Kut’tab كــُــتـــَّــاب , and then Al-Saediyyah School الـمــدرســــةالـســَّــعــيــديــَّـــة and then to the Agricultural School الـمـدرســةالـزراعــيـــَّــة . He got interested in acting for the first time when he watched a Lebanese theatre group performing in Sohag. He practiced his hobby of acting at Al-Ahly Club الــنــَّــاديالأهــلـــي and at school.

Youssef Abdallah Wahbi Qotb (Arabic: يوسف عبد الله هديب وهبي قطب) (14 July 1898 – 17 October 1982) was an Egyptian stage, film actor and director, a leading star of the 1930s and 1940s and one of the most prominent Egyptian stage actors of all time, who also served on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. He was born to a high state official in Egypt but renounced his family's wealth and traveled to Rome in the 1919 to study theatre, married with Elena Lunda. Besides his stage work, he acted in around 50 films in Egyptian cinema, starting with Awlad al-Zawat (Sons of Aristocrats, 1932) to "Iskanderiya... lih?" (Alexandria... Why?, 1978).

Early life
