I never realised that because we were so busy doing the magazine, and in any case people in America didn’t like us very much. They were not nice at all. After that, there were 14 Elle magazines in the world.
Where did you shoot the photographs?
Everywhere. At the beginning, we had no real fashion editor so Regis Pagniez and I did creative tricks. Regis was very talented, and I was very lucky because Regis already had a great experience with Daniel Filipacchi. I learned a lot from Regis. I brought something but he brought the other part.
You photographed the super models such as Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Claudia Schiffer?
Yes, at this time, but the problem was Condé Nast was so powerful in America that we tried to think of different girls.
Did you have a relationship with the designers?
The beginning was so much work with Regis that, while we sometimes went to the shows in New York, we would never go to the shows in Paris or Milan. When they did send me to Milan

Biographie
[modifier | modifier le code]Gilles Bensimon est le premier enfant d’une fratrie de quatre garçons. Sa famille est constituée de marchands d’art et d’artistes. Il souffre de dyslexie, ce qui l’amène à beaucoup dessiner et à entamer une carrière artistique.
Son premier appareil lui sert à prendre une photo de son frère Renaud. Pendant de longues années, il ne touchera plus un appareil[2].
Marié à Pacha Bensimon, conceptrice publicitaire, de 1967 à 1983, il a une première fille, Alice Bensimon, née en 1973. Il se marie ensuite au top model Elle Macpherson, ainsi qu'à l'ex-mannequin Kelly Killoren (en) dont il divorce en et avec qui il a deux filles : Sea Louise Bensimon, née en 1998, et Thadeus Ann Bensimon, née en 2000. Il est, depuis les années 1980, très proche du couturier Azzedine Alaïa[3].

Gilles Francis Charles Bensimon (French:[ʒilbɛ̃simɔ̃]; born 29 February 1944) is a French fashion photographer and the former International Creative Director of Elle magazine. He has also been the photographer for the reality television series America's Next Top Model.[1]
