Meet Astronaut Story Musgrave
Jan 15, 2022 - Jan 16, 2022 Kennedy Space CenterNASA selects astronauts from a diverse pool of applicants with a wide variety of backgrounds, from scientists to pilots. From the thousands of applications received, only a few are chosen to be a member of the elite NASA Astronaut Corps. Each day at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, visitors get the rare opportunity to meet a veteran NASA astronaut.
Meet the Astronaut of the Day at any of the following opportunities. See the Daily Schedule for the times for each when you arrive.
- The daily Astronaut Encounter briefings allow time for a presentation from the astronaut and a question-and-answer session, so be prepared to ask him or her what you have always wanted to know.
- Visitors can also get an astronaut’s autograph at The Space Shop and Shuttle Express at various times during the day.

Dr. Story Musgrave
- After attending high school, Musgrave served as an aircraft electrician in the United States Marine Corps on the USS Wasp. He was enveloped by his passion for aviation and quickly signed up for flight training after being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps
- Upon leaving the Marine Corps, Musgrave pursued his educational goals at several esteemed universities. Including Syracuse University, Marietta College, and Columbia University.
- Pioneered research in human anatomy and flight. Musgrave eventually became a physician and an expert in the effects of aviation on the human body.
- In 1967, he was selected by NASA for NASA’s second group of Scientist Astronauts. Although, with budget cuts plaguing NASA, his future as an astronaut was uncertain.
- Musgrave would be selected in 1983 to serve as Mission Specialist on STS-6. Musgrave was the only astronaut to fly on all five Space Shuttles before the disbandment
