10 May - Sainte Solange was born in Saint Martin du Crot (today Sainte-Solange (Cher), in the locality of Villemont). She spent her days tending the sheep of her father, a shepherd, and praying.
When she became a teenager and, it is said, very beautiful, while she was in the meadows, came Bernard de Gothie, son of the Count of Poitiers, who took her by force on his horse. Solange resisted and while struggling, the two of them fell from their horses into a stream. In anger, he beheaded her. Legend has it that the head invoked the name of Jesus three times. The body picked it up and carried it to its birthplace, Villemont, where it was found.
It is said that during her lifetime, every night her steps were illuminated by a bright star above her, and that she had the power to drive away evil and heal the sick by his presence.

Saint Solange of Bourges, also known as Solange of Berry or Solange of Bourges of Genevieve du Berry, was born in the year 863 in the village of Villemont near Bourges, France. She was born into a family of poor vine dressers and led a humble life from an early age. As a young virgin shepherdess, Solange possessed a deep faith and took a personal vow of chastity, devoting herself entirely to God. She found solace and connection with the divine through her prayers, often reciting them in the fields while tending to her flock. It is said that during these moments, a radiant star would shine over her head, a sign of her special connection to God. Solange was known for her exceptional gift of healing, particularly in relation to animals. She possessed a deep empathy for all creatures and was believed to have the ability to cure their ailments through her prayers and touch. St. Solange, Virgin and Martyr
St. Solange, the patroness of the province of Berry in France, was born at Villemont near Bourges in the 9th century. After the example of her poor devout parents, the child was deeply religious and at the age of seven she is said to have taken a vow of chastity.
Given the task of looking after the family sheep, Solange obtained a great affinity for and power over animals. This saintly virgin also was endowed with the power of healing and affected many cures of the sick. Her fame spread and everyone became aware of her beauty and holiness.
One day about the year 880, while Solange was tending her flock, one of the sons of the Count of Poitiers named Bernard approached and made advances toward her. Her resistance only served to inflame the attacker all the more, and he attempted to set her on the horse he was riding. The young girl twisted free and slid off the horse but was seriously injured by the fall. Driven by a demonic fury, the youth then thrust his sword into her, killing her on the spot.
