Brisbane-based outfit, Dead Letter Circus is, upfront, my favourite band. Do I review then, with an objective ear? Actually I think one comes to expect more from the groups one really admires than from those with whom one is not so familiar.
The reason they are my favourite ensemble is that their music feels like home. They are a lit fire one returns to on a rainy winter’s night. Musical affiliations are a very personal thing based often on the way in which a certain song, piece or performance enters one’s life at a time of need, making it hard to ever extricate self from the emotional and memory-laden experiences that align with the musical encounter. Glue-like. Music is unique in that way.
