Michael Bublé
(1975-)
Who Is Michael Buble?
Michael Bublé is a classic jazz and soul singer who cites Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald as his major influences. At age 17 he entered and won the British Columbia Youth Talent Search, launching his career. Since then, he has had several No. 1 songs and albums and has won several awards.
Early Life
Singer and actor Michael Steven Bublé was born on September 9, 1975, in Burnaby, British Columbia. Bublé's father, Lewis, was often out at sea. This left his mother, Amber, and grandfather, Demetrio Santanga, as the primary caregivers for Bublé; and his two younger sisters, Crystal and Brandee.
Santanga's huge collection of records was the foundation of Bublé's passion for classic jazz and soul music. Thanks to famed artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, it wasn't too long before young Michael decided that he wanted to follow in their famous footsteps. Said Bublé, "I wanted to be a singer and I knew that this was the music that I wanted to sing."

Michael Bublé: The Biography
Now I know that I still like the voice but really quite dislike the person. : ) Honestly, I have never read a biography in which the biographer spends more time apologising about certain thing their subject says or does. It seemed like almost every second sentence was "Of course, this wasn't the real Michael Buble speaking...", or "...again, Michael was showing himself to be a family man at heart..." Not to mention he's got a mouth like sewer trap. Oh, swipe me, ain't we classy?
So, reading this book, I have come to the conclusion that Michael is a genuine, laid-back guy. But he also appears to be arrogant, rude and very-well aware of who he is and his 'heart-throb' status. (????) I reckon he'd be alright once you got to know him, but personally I still much prefer Josh Groban.

Michael Bublé: The Biography
By Juliet Peel
Piatkus, 2010, £7.99
Juliet Peel, "experienced show-business journalist and writer, with extensive contacts in the celebrity world", has produced a biography of the "international singing sensation" who's blessed with a "huge and loyal fanbase", it says in the blurb. I hope they enjoy it. Although crass enough to be at times unintentionally amusing, the book's musical and artistic content is sparse.
Bublé's repertoire is the Great American Songbook popularised by Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, and explored most searchingly by Billie Holiday. Seeing his video of The Way You Look Tonight made me realise that though hardly a master, he's not a complete hack; and he can talk knowledgeably about Mel Tormé and Nat "King" Cole. Sadly, his biographer's critical insight is limited to descriptions of him crooning or "belting his heart out" – as in "he belted out Strangers In The Ni
