Barnbaum's educational background includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mathematics from UCLA in 1965 and 1967. After working for several years as a mathematical analyst and computer programmer for missile guidance systems, he abruptly left the field and turned to photography in late 1970.
I have dual goals for this exhibit: one artistic, the other educational. Trees have always fascinated me for their sheer magnificence, their variety, and the diversity of locations in which they grow. From the moment I began to photograph, trees were one of the subjects that I gravitated toward, both visually and emotionally. So, trees as photographic subject matter has been with me from the start. In my book, Tone Poems - Book 2, the closing section, or opus, is titled "Among the Trees," featuring 45 images of trees, some in this exhibit. I have found that t

About Bruce Barnbaum
Bruce Barnbaum of Granite Falls gained Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mathematics from UCLA, then, after three years as a math analyst and computer programmer, abruptly turned to his hobby of photography as his life’s work in 1970. Today, after more than 50 years, it is still his hobby, but has also become a storied career.

Bruce Barnbaum, of Granite Falls, WA, entered photography as a hobbyist in the 1960s, and after four decades, it is still his hobby. It has also been his life's work for the past 30 years.
Bruce's educational background includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mathematics from UCLA. After working for several years as a mathematical analyst and computer programmer for missile guidance systems, he abruptly left the field and turned to photography.
Bruce has authored several books, some of which have become classics. The Art of Photographywas first published in 1994 and remained in print until 2007. Bruce has been self-publishing the book ever since, but with limited distribution.
Bruce is a frequent contributor to several photography magazines. His series The Master Printing Classis featured in each issue of Photo Techniques, and his articles are published regularly in LensWork. Through his workshops, articles, lectures, books, and innovative photography, Bruce has become a well-known and highly respected photographer, educator, and pioneer.
