Christina Johnson
Born in Vienna, Austria, Christina Johnson began her dance education at age seven. She trained at the Boston School of Ballet, the School of American Ballet, and the Dance Theatre of Harlem and began her professional career at age 17.
She was a member of the Boston Ballet for two years before joining the Dance Theatre of Harlem, where she rose to become a principal dancer within four years. In her 13-year tenure with DTH she danced leading roles in much of the company’s repertoire, including Swan Lake, Giselle, Firebird, Voluntaries, Prodigal Son, Serenade, The Four Temperaments, and Fancy Free. Christina has worked with distinguished choreographers and coaches, among them Jerome Robbins, Frederic Franklin, Suzanne Farrell, Allegra Kent, and Sir Anthony Dowell. She also has had original works created on her by Glen Tetley, Rui Horta, Alonzo King, and Dwight Rhoden, among others. Kristina M. Johnson (born May 7, 1957) is an American professorial electrical engineer, business executive and academic administrator. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering.
She previously served as the 13th chancellor of the State University of New York from 2017 to 2020[1] and the 16th president of Ohio State University from 2020 to 2023.[2] She has knowledge in the development of optoelectronic processing systems, 3-D imaging, and color-management systems.[3]
Early life and education
Johnson was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in Denver, Colorado. As a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, she won the Denver City and Colorado State science fair competition, and placed second in the Physics division and a first place award from the Air Force

Christina Johnson’s career began at age seventeen with Boston Ballet. Two years later she joined Dance Theatre of Harlem where she reached the rank of principal dancer within four years and had a 13-year tenure there. Christina is a founding member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and has been a featured guest artist with various companies worldwide, including the Royal Ballet of London, where she and her dance partner, Ronald Perry, were the first black couple to perform leading roles with the company. She danced in Switzerland for seven years, first with Le Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve and then Ballett Basel.
Christina held the position of Rehearsal Director for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Washington Ballet, Armitage Gone! Dance, Trey McIntyre Project and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She was on faculty at Marin Ballet in San Rafael, CA, and was Adjunct Faculty at Dominican University in the LINES/Dominican BFA in Dance Program.
