Sheron Alton and Holly Woods of TORONTO are out to getcha

NO PUBLICITY, however sly, or sneaky or sick could have planned a better opening move. Just ask Toronto!

When this Canadian sextet first on the scene back in 1980, their debut album caused pandemonium both in Canada and the US – or at least the cover did. Depicting a rather ’too knowing’ young girl (no more than ten years old, surely!) standing on a sleazy street corner, under the LP title of ‘Lookin’ For Trouble’, the resultant uproar was deafening in the extreme.

Lead guitarist Sheron Alton recalls those days, with less than complete enthusiasm: “In Canada, they freaked out at the sleeve. We were mentioned on TV programmes about child pornography, for example. And in the States, some women’s groups tried to get the album banned.”
Eventually, when said LP trickled out in England, it was with a drastically altered cover.
“I must admit that I’ve seen worse sleeves than our original one. But, you know, this whole pornography thing w

Biography

Toronto is a Canadian rock band formed in 1979, in Toronto, Canada. This is our true and official story, written by us, in contrast to what you might read or be told elsewhere. Although we are not currently touring, we are each active musically and as united as we ever were.

Toronto was formed out of a merger of players from several bands: Rose (drummer Jim Fox and guitarist Brian Allen); Lady (guitarist Sheron Alton); and Sass (lead vocalist Anne “Holly” Woods, keyboardist Scott Kreyer and bassist Nick Costello). The band quickly became something greater than the sum of its parts and our signature sound developed into having a “life” of its own.

Believing in the pedigree of the band members, Neill Dixon and Steve Propas became our management team, funding a trip to make pre-album demos with producer Sonny Limbo at Pyramid Eye Studios in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, in late 1979. It was Sonny who suggested that we call ourselves “Toronto”. His rationale was that, to many Americans, Toronto had a mythical and somewhat exotic reputation, and the name would be a good-vib

A reader of this blog is on a quest and I’m asking for your help on his behalf.

Sheron Alton was a member of the late-70’s-and-80’s rock band Toronto.  At one time she was married to Brian Allen, another band member, but they have since lost touch.  (This we know from Mr. Allen himself.)  Tidbits of information have come to light that she might now be an interior decorator and probably lives somewhere north of Toronto.  Remarried, her surname could be just about anything now.

Sheron is the flower girl in this photo from my reader’s Mom’s 1955 wedding.

It is really the matron-of-honour that we’re looking for, Colleen Alton, Sheron’s mom, second from the right.  She and the bride were best friends but lost touch after Colleen moved to the U.S.  The bride is recently widowed and would dearly love to reconnect with her old friend.  We need to reach Sheron to find out where her Mom lives now.

If you know how to get in touch with Sheron Alton, an elderly lady who just lost her mate would be forever grateful.  Send me an email and I’
